How Does a Rock Crusher Work?

Rock Crushers Defined
A rock crusher is a device used to crush rocks into smaller pieces, usually for gravel or some other road or building application. Most rock crushers have a hopper at the top -- a container which holds the rock above the crusher and uses gravity to feed it in. Alternately, rock crushers can use a belt drive to continuously transport the rock into the crusher. At the bottom of nearly every type of crusher is a hole. Once a rock has been pressed into small enough pieces to fit through the hole, it exits the crusher either onto, a conveyor belt, into a bin or onto a large pile. In some cases, one rock crusher may feed directly into a second one, crushing the rocks up into finer and finer particles in two or three stages.

Stone Jaw Crusher
Jaw Crusher
Jaw crushers are the oldest and one of the simplest sorts of rock crushers. A jaw crusher is like a giant collapsible V made out of two metal walls. At the bottom, the two walls are very close together and at the top they are further apart. One wall is held still while the other is closed against it -- usually about three times a second. When it closes, the jaw crushes the rocks inside it. Because it tapers, the rocks are crushed to smaller and smaller sizes as they go down, then dropped through the bottom.

Roller Crusher
Another common type is the roller crusher. The roller crusher is a set of two large metal rolers rotating in opposite directions. Rocks are fed into the space between the two rollers, where they are crushed and then dropped to the ground. Roller crushers are often used as a secondary crushing stage. Small, pre-crushed rocks are inserted into the roller, which then breaks them down into gravel.

Gyratory and Stone Crushers
Gyratory and cone crushers work in pretty much the same way, although they have slightly different designs. The rock falls into the top of a chamber with a spinning grinder at the bottom. As the rock falls down, it is squeezed between the grinder and the walls of the chamber and crushed. As it continues to fall down the chamber, it is pulverized into smaller and smaller bits until it falls out the bottom.

How is the Magnetic Separation Process?

Flotation Separator
Magnetic separation is an industrial process that uses a magnetic field to separate magnetic materials from non-magnetic ones. Iron, for example is highly magnetic; magnetic separation is sometimes used to separate iron ore from surrounding silicate rock. Magnetic separation can also be used to separate ferrous materials, or materials that contain iron, from industrial waste streams before they can contaminate water supplies.

Magnetic fields
When any mineral is exposed to a magnetic field, it is either drawn by the field or not. Particles that are drawn to the field are called magnetic. There are different sorts of magnetic separators, but the most common is the drum. Essentially a stream of material is dropped onto the outside of a magnetic drum. Non-magnetic or weakly magnetic particles bounce or fall off of the drum. The remaining magnetic particles stick to it until they are scraped off.

Impact grinding
Sometimes, after passing around the first drum, the remaining material hits what is called an impact grinder or impact mill. The impact grinder contains a rapidly spinning wheel that increases the speed of the falling material. The particles then strike what is called an impact block, shattering into even smaller bits. Some mining companies order custom-made grinders that reach several stories high. The smashing of the non-metallic leftovers often reveals particles that are metallic but were covered in non-metallic matter and did not stick to the drum originally.

Sieving
The pieces, which can be as small as half an inch around, then fall onto a screen. The tiniest bits, which are most likely sand particles, are sieved through the screen. These bits of worthless rock and other silicates are called gangue. The gangue is generally discarded. After this screening process, the remaining material is then further dropped onto a second magnetic drum where the process repeats. What material remains will be metal concentrate.

Cost and Types
Magnetic separation is a popular and low-cost method of recovering metals. In addition to the drum method, many other types of separators exist. These include, but are not limited to, pulleys, discs, belts and rings. Magnetic separation is used primarily by mining industries but also by environmentalists on industrial wastes and even by those who study space materials. Magnetic separators can be used either "wet" or "dry" and come in countless shapes and sizes.

What's the Types of Cement Kilns?

Cement Kiln
Cement kilns are used to produce hydraulic cement. The process involves the grinding and mixture of limestone and clay. The raw mixture is heated in the cement kiln to a temperature of 1,500 degrees Celsius (2,732 degrees Fahrenheit), and then it is ground through a process called "clinker" and then made into cement. There are different types of cement kilns that are involved in the production of cement.

Wet Process Kilns
The wet process kiln was the main cement kiln used in the 20th century. They were the original rotary cement kilns. With wet process kilns, the raw material is made into a mixture called "slurry," which usually contains 40 percent water. The poor fuel efficiency of these types of kilns became an issue in the 1970s when the cost of fuel went up. Since that time, fewer wet kilns have been manufactured.

Dry Process Kilns
The dry process kiln is similar to the wet process kiln, but it has a better fuel consumption. This is so because the material that is fed into the kiln is dry. Two common ingredients that are used in concrete production with dry process kilns are limestone and shale. The ingredients are ground together into a raw meal. This is then fed through the top of the preheater tower.

Preheater/Precalciner Kilns
The preheater or precalciner kilns contain tall preheater towers. These towers use the heat from the kiln to preheat the raw materials. A benefit of these kilns is their fuel efficiency. They use 50 percent less energy that the dry process kiln.

We also provide other rotary kilns such as Rotary Lime Kiln, Clinker Kiln and etc, visit our web to know more info about mining machinery! :)

Product: Mining Dryer

Mining Dryer

>Description:
The working principle of mining dryer:
After the wet material is added into the dryer, the material displays and disperses uniformly in the dryer by the stir of shoveling plate uniformly distributed in barrel. Then contact with the hot countercurrent air fully and speed up the heat transmission, and mass transfer. In the process of drying, the material can move to the other star-shape discharge valve end of dryer and eject the finished product by the function of tilt shoveling plate and hot air current. The mining dryer is applicable to the large particles with large specific weight in chemical engineering, mining, and metallurgy industries, such as ore, blast furnace slag, coal, metal powder, phosphatic fertilizer, and ammonium sulfate. And it also applicable to the drying of powdery, particle material with special requirements, such as HP foaming agent, distilled grain slag, light, Calcium carbonate, activated clay, magnetic powder, black lead, and decoction dregs which need low temperature drying and mass continuous drying.

Wiki: What is A Rod Mill?

Rod Grinding Mill
Rod mill is a rotating drum causes friction and attrition between steel rods and ore particles. But note that the term 'rod mill' is also used as a synonym for a slitting mill, which makes rods of iron or other metal. Rod mills are less common than ball mills for grinding minerals.

The rods used in the mill, usually a high-carbon steel, can vary in both the length and the diameter. However, the smaller the rods, the larger is the total surface area and hence, the greater the grinding efficiency.

Wiki: What is A Ball Mill?

Coal Ball Bill
A ball mill, a type of grinder, is a cylindrical device used in grinding (or mixing) materials like ores, chemicals, ceramic raw materials and paints. Ball mills rotate around a horizontal axis, partially filled with the material to be ground plus the grinding medium. Different materials are used as media, including ceramic balls, flint pebbles and stainless steel balls. An internal cascading effect reduces the material to a fine powder. Industrial ball mills can operate continuously, fed at one end and discharged at the other end. Large to medium-sized ball mills are mechanically rotated on their axis, but small ones normally consist of a cylindrical capped container that sits on two drive shafts (pulleys and belts are used to transmit rotary motion). A rock tumbler functions on the same principle. Ball mills are also used in pyrotechnics and the manufacture of black powder, but cannot be used in the preparation of some pyrotechnic mixtures such as flash powder because of their sensitivity to impact. High-quality ball mills are potentially expensive and can grind mixture particles to as small as 5 nm, enormously increasing surface area and reaction rates. The grinding works on the principle of critical speed. The critical speed can be understood as that speed after which the steel balls (which are responsible for the grinding of particles) start rotating along the direction of the cylindrical device; thus causing no further grinding.
Ball mills are used extensively in the Mechanical alloying process in which they are not only used for grinding but for cold welding as well, with the purpose of producing alloys from powders.
The ball mill is a key piece of equipment for grinding crushed materials, and it is widely used in production lines for powders such as cement, silicates, refractory material, fertilizer, glass ceramics, etc. as well as for ore dressing of both ferrous non-ferrous metals. The ball mill can grind various ores and other materials either wet or dry. There are two kinds of ball mill, grate type and overfall type due to different ways of discharging material. There are many types of grinding media suitable for use in a ball mill, each material having its own specific properties and advantages. Key properties of grinding media are size, density, hardness, and composition.
  • Size: The smaller the media particles, the smaller the particle size of the final product. At the same time, the grinding media particles should be substantially larger than the largest pieces of material to be ground.
  • Density: The media should be denser than the material being ground. It becomes a problem if the grinding media floats on top of the material to be ground.
  • Hardness: The grinding media needs to be durable enough to grind the material, but where possible should not be so tough that it also wears down the tumbler at a fast pace.
  • Composition: Various grinding applications have special requirements. Some of these requirements are based on the fact that some of the grinding media will be in the finished product. Others are based in how the media will react with the material being ground.
  • Where the color of the finished product is important, the color and material of the grinding media must be considered.
  • Where low contamination is important, the grinding media may be selected for ease of separation from the finished product (i.e.: steel dust produced from stainless steel media can be magnetically separated from non-ferrous products). An alternative to separation is to use media of the same material as the product being ground.
  • Flammable products have a tendency to become explosive in powder form. Steel media may spark, becoming an ignition source for these products. Either wet-grinding, or non-sparking media such as ceramic or lead must be selected.
  • Some media, such as iron, may react with corrosive materials. For this reason, stainless steel, ceramic, and flint grinding media may each be used when corrosive substances are present during grinding.
The grinding chamber can also be filled with an inert shield gas that does not react with the material being ground, to prevent oxidation or explosive reactions that could occur with ambient air inside the mill.(WIKI)
